Guide Taylor and riders Claude, Chris, Amanda and Dan on an avalanche run out jan 26, 2009. This wet slide occured sometime in the last week. Wet slides are very uncommon in Janurary but with the warm weather the last two weeks they have been possible. This slide occured naturally, but is an eye opener to the danger one can be in when riding in the back country. The run out of this slide is ten feet high in places and frozen rock solid. PLEASE excersize caution in the back country, and where the proper gear (beacon, shovel and pack).
This slab broke in a pit we dug in our backcountry Jan 25. As you can see the slab is about four feet thick and the picture on the right shows how close to the ground it fractured, about 8″. Please use caution and always, always, have the proper gear and know how to use it!!!
